Abstract

Insomnia is a common sleep disorder among university students that may affect academic performance and psychological well-being. This study aimed to explore the overview of insomnia and the implementation of spiritual worship in overcoming insomnia among students of the Faculty of Ushuluddin, Adab, and Da'wah, IAIN Parepare. A qualitative case study design was employed involving 15 students experiencing insomnia symptoms. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The findings revealed that insomnia was influenced by stress and anxiety, depression, medication side effects, irregular eating patterns, caffeine and nicotine consumption, and lack of physical exercise. Stress and anxiety were identified as the most dominant factors. Students implemented spiritual worship through the dimensions of aqidah, syariah, and akhlak, including listening to Qur’anic recitations, making supplications, strengthening faith in Allah SWT, following the Sunnah of sleeping on the right side, performing ablution before sleep, and practicing Islamic sleeping etiquette. These practices were perceived to reduce anxiety, promote emotional calmness, and improve sleep readiness. The study concludes that spiritual worship serves as an important coping resource for students experiencing insomnia and may be integrated into Islamic counseling services as an alternative approach to addressing sleep disturbances.
